History
The Palace Broadway was built by the Shubert Brothers, Lee and Jacob, in 1913. The brothers wanted to create a larger theater that would accommodate larger productions and larger audiences. The theater was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by architect Herbert J. Krapp, who also designed the New Amsterdam Theatre and the Sam S. Shubert Theatre. It was the first theater to be built with the latest fire safety and electrical standards. The theater opened on March 24, 1913 with a production of the musical “A Chinese Honeymoon.” Since then, it has hosted some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, and Lucille Ball.
