The statue’s right arm holds a torch that is 24 feet in length, and its left arm holds a tablet inscribed with the date of the United States Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.

The Statue of Liberty has undergone several renovations over the years, most recently in 2012. The renovations included replacing the original steel framework, installing new elevators, and restoring the interior of the Statue. The renovations also included the installation of a new lighting system to better illuminate the Statue at night.

Statue of Liberty Visitor Center

The Statue of Liberty Visitor Center is located at the base of the Statue and is open daily from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The center features exhibits and interactive displays about the history of the Statue and the island, as well as information about the current renovations. Visitors can also purchase souvenirs and take part in ranger-led tours.
