La Sagrada Familia is a large Catholic basilica located in Barcelona, Spain. It was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and is one of the most visited monuments in Spain. The basilica is still under construction and is expected to be completed in 2026, the centenary of Gaudí’s death.
History
The Sagrada Familia was originally designed in 1883 by Catalan architect Francisco de Paula del Villar. He resigned in 1884 and Gaudí took over the project. Gaudí redesigned the project in 1885, making it much more elaborate and adding his signature style. Gaudí worked on the project for over 40 years, until his death in 1926.
Design
Gaudí designed the basilica in the shape of a Latin cross. The main entrance is located on the east side, and the main façade is located on the west side. The basilica is decorated with ornate sculptures, stained glass windows, and elaborate mosaics. The interior is divided into five naves, with a large central nave. The basilica also includes a crypt and several chapels.

Controversy
