Alin Mituta: The European Parliament's Rising Star

Alin Mituta is a Romanian politician and Member of the European Parliament. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party, part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

Mituta was born in Bucharest in 1971 and graduated from the University of Bucharest with a degree in political science. He then worked as a journalist, writing for several newspapers and magazines. In 2004, he was elected to the European Parliament and has been re-elected in 2009, 2014 and 2019.

Political career

Mituta is a member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats and sits on the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. He is also a member of the Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect, and the Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance.

In the European Parliament, Mituta is a vocal advocate for farmers and rural development, particularly in Romania. He is a strong supporter of the Common Agricultural Policy, and has argued for increased support for small and medium-sized farmers. He has also argued for increased investment in rural infrastructure, such as roads and internet access.

Mituta is also a strong supporter of EU enlargement and has argued for increased support for Romania’s accession to the EU. He has also advocated for increased cooperation between the EU and Romania, particularly in the areas of agriculture, energy, and the environment.

Achievements

In 2009, Mituta was appointed as the European Parliament’s rapporteur on the CAP Health Check. He was also a member of the High Level Group of Experts on the Modernisation of EU Agricultural Policy, and the European Commission’s Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.

Mituta has also been actively involved in the European Parliament’s Intergroup on Rural, Mountainous and Remote Areas, and the Intergroup on Sustainable Hunting and Biodiversity.

Mituta is a member of the Romanian Association of Farmers and a founding member of the European Network of Farmers and Rural Network (ENFRN). He is also a member of the European Council of Rural Communities (ECRC).
