Munich Residenz Museum is a museum in Munich, Germany, located in the former residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings. It houses an extensive collection of fine art and historic artifacts from the House of Wittelsbach, the ruling dynasty of Bavaria. The museum is open daily and is one of the most popular attractions in Munich.
History
The Residenz was originally built as a palace for the Wittelsbach family in the late 16th century and was expanded over the centuries. It was destroyed in World War II but was reconstructed in the 1950s. It was opened to the public as a museum in 1972.
Collections
The museum is divided into two parts: the museum and the treasury. The museum contains a large collection of fine art and historical artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, tapestries, porcelain, and armor. The treasury contains a collection of gold, silver, and jewels from the Wittelsbach family.

- The Antiquarium, the largest hall of the Residenz, was built in the late 16th century and contains an impressive collection of antiques.

Visiting
The Munich Residenz Museum is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm, except on public holidays. Admission is €7.50 for adults and €3.50 for children. Guided tours are available in English and other languages for an additional fee.
