History of Vizcaya
Vizcaya was built in 1916 by industrialist James Deering as a winter retreat. It was designed by architect F. Burrall Hoffman, Jr. and landscape architect Diego Suarez. It was inspired by the Italian Renaissance villas of the 16th century and was constructed with imported materials from around the world. The estate was completed in 1922 and Deering lived there until his death in 1925.
Main House
The Main House is a large Italian Renaissance-style villa with 34 decorated rooms, each with its own distinct style. It is filled with art, antiques, and furniture from the 15th to 19th centuries. There are also four terraces, a loggia, and a grand courtyard.
Formal Gardens
